"Cherry Red With Tips On Top"

Sandy Poirier, owner of Boston抯 hip Shag Salon, not only works behind the chair, but behind the camera as well. 揑 shoot all my ads, he says. 揑t is critical for me to shape the image of my salon and that starts with photography and advertising. For Shag抯 most recent ad campaign, Poirier enlisted top salon stylists Kara Hurston and Liz Grace Cummings to create edgy, thought-provoking styles. Here抯 how they got the looks:

Black Updo (by Kara)
1. Spray Dry and spray through the entire head, starting with the roots.
2. Tease the whole head of hair to get a lot of volume. Give a couple good backcombs at the roots, but go softer through the ends.
3. Pin the sides up to give it more of a Mohawk look (I used about five bobby pins per side,) then shape with your hands.
4. Lastly, spray Imperm閍ble all over to give the look a little hold without adding weight.

Tipped Mohawk (by Liz Grace)
1. We started off by cutting off all of the model抯 hair. The strong cut balanced out her delicate features.
2. Then I asked my colorist to give her a roughed-up look, so she gave her ruby red locks with bleached-out tips.
3. For the style, work Cr鑝e for Style through wet hair and dry it with hands for texture. When hair is about 80 percent dry, start using a brush to smooth the locks out a bit.
4. Next, spray Dry at the roots for lift and grittiness.
5. Tease the hair for height.
6. Finish with Original Pomade for some piecey-ness.
