Behind the Hair

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Hair by Mark Townsend

Celebrity stylist Mark Townsend was on hand to create an intricate updo for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows star Rachel McAdams for the film抯 Los Angeles premiere on December 6. The beautiful, swept-up style showed off the dramatic low-cut back of McAdams sparkling Marchesa gown. Townsend used Dry Texturizing Spray to give the romantic look a slightly roughed-up finish. Here抯 how to recreate this stunning red carpet look:

1. Apply Cr鑝e for Style to damp hair and blow-dry with your hands, scrunching the hair to create a voluminous, wavy base.
2. Mist 2-inch sections of hair with Superfine and wrap each one around a -inch curling iron.
3. Once all sections have been curled, spritz Dry all over the hair to break up the curls and add a little messiness.
4. Create several small buns or chignons using 1- to 4-inch sections of hair, pulling the sides and top sections of hair to the back of the head. Pin each section in place.
5. Create lift and softness at the sides and crown by running your fingers through the hair to loosen the front.
6. Finish with Superfine Strong to ensure the style lasts throughout the night.
