Behind the Hair

CFDA 50th Anniversary
Runway Retrospective

Hair by Oribe
June 4, 2012

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) put on an incredible runway show documenting the past five decades in fashion to kick off its annual awards presentation. Oribe had the honor of creating hair looks to represent each era, and he and his team worked backstage to give each model a distinctive look.

While all the styles were unique to their time period, they had a similar starting point. 揥e decided to keep the back of the hair the same梩ight to the head梬hile using the section of hair on top to form various shapes and different proportions, Oribe said. 揟he looks are extreme, but not campy. They抮e all gorgeous and each one has a personality.

To create the base:
1. Spray Maximista before blow drying hair, then set in large rollers to establish a good base.
2. Clip up the top section of hair.
3. Part the back of the hair in the center.
4. Create two very tight and clean French twists and pin in place, leaving a seam in the middle. Use Imperm閍ble to set. Let the remaining hair from the twists stay loose.
