Behind the Hair

Jena Malone at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party 2014

Hair by Bobby Eliot

Hunger Games star Jena Malone wore a gorgeous art deco-inspired J Mendel lace dress to this year抯 Vanity Fair Oscar party. To complement her ensemble, hairstylist Bobby Eliot gave Jena 20s-style Marcel waves with a low side part. 揥e wanted to play off the vintage quality of the dress and keep the look feminine and soft, Bobby said.

Bobby started the look by applying Foundation Mist all over damp hair, followed up by Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse at the roots. He then blow dried the hair using a boar bristle round brush and pinned up the hair into a curl set to create extra root lift. Once the hair was dry, Bobby made a deep side part and sprayed the hair section by section with hair spray, then finger-waved the hair with a 1-inch curling iron starting in the front and working his way back around the head. After the waves cooled and set, Bobby brushed out the hair gently with a Mason Pearson brush and sculpted the waves in a soft S-shape. He finished the look with a shine spray for a high-gloss finish.
